Spider Plant – The Ultimate Easy-Care Indoor Plant
The Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum) is one of the most popular and forgiving houseplants in India. Known for its arching green-and-white striped leaves and cascading baby plantlets (“spiderettes”), it’s a natural air purifier and perfect for Delhi NCR homes and balconies year-round.
🌞 Light: Thrives in bright indirect light but tolerates low light well. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun which can scorch the leaf tips. A north, east, or west-facing windowsill is ideal.
💧 Watering: Water when the top inch of soil feels dry — roughly every 5–7 days in summer, every 10–12 days in winter. Spider plants are drought-tolerant; underwatering is safer than overwatering. Brown leaf tips can indicate fluoride in tap water — use filtered or leftover RO water if possible.
🪨 Potting & Soil: Comes in a 4-inch nursery bag. Can stay in this size for 4–6 months before repotting into a 5–6 inch pot. Use well-draining potting soil + vermicompost (4:1). Prefers slightly root-bound conditions — don’t rush to repot.
🏠 Placement: Excellent for hanging planters, shelves, or windowsills indoors. Also does well on a shaded balcony. Great for bedrooms as it purifies air overnight.
Difficulty: Very Easy ✅ | Pet safety: Safe for pets and children 🐾 | Air-purifying: Yes
